The Germans call the Minature Pinscher "Reh pinscher"; reh meaning ' 'doe," and indeed this small dog with his small frame, erect ears, and shiny coat does resemble that graceful animal of the woods. This is the miniature variety of the Pinscher; a guard dog also bred as a companion. He has not, lost all of the Pinscher traits though. Like the Pincscher, he will bark and defend the house.

Although his maximum weight is usually only 9 pounds, the Minature Pinscher is a sturdy dog, with a compact, and muscular body. The colors of the this breed's coat is typically black and tan, all yellow, sometimes reddish yellow, and sometimes chestnut. There is also a Harlequin Pinscher, which has a light-colored mantle with black. gray, or reddish brown markings. The Miniature Pinscher is a very loyal dog who becomes very attached to his owners and enjoys playing with small children.
